| Περίληψη: | This paper reports on insights from the first research cycle of a developmental study which aims at the design of a learning environment that could effectively support University students to reach a better understanding about NOS. Our focus here is particularly set on whether and how students’ understanding about several NOS aspects (e.g. tentativeness, sociocultural embeddedness), has been improved after their participation in the first version of our story-based learning environment. The participants were thirty-six, conveniently selected, second-year students of educational sciences. The three-session learning environment was made up of three stories especially created for the study. Each story presents a fictitious conversation between two eminent scientists who appear in the history of the idea of ‘Balance of Nature’, and promotes specific NOS aspects. In each session, students read a story, collaborated in pairs to respond to story-based questions, and took part in a whole-class discussion. Students filled in a 20-item pre/post-questionnaire with both Likert and two-tier two-choice items for each target NOS aspect. The results suggest that the story-based learning environment was effective in supporting students to advance their NOS understanding. |
