Περίληψη: | Arrival neighborhoods as interfaces of everyday life become fundamental cells for the integration of migrants and refugees. The objective of the research is to look for ways of cultural appropriation of urban open spaces based on a dialectic between landscape architecture, programming and technology. This aims to respond to challenges of spatial capacity, raising issues of visibility and segregation from the landing of displaced people until their settlement. In addition, it aims to expand the dominant “arrival” narrativity that shapes stances and social routines towards the incoming of populations framing them with the concepts of “economization”, “securitization” and “humanitarization”. Hence, it is hypothesized that digital-storytelling and the indexing of urban experiences in social media platforms would help understand city centers as arrival hubs, becoming a probe for displaced communities to restore self-organized domains. At first, the literature review covers different aspects of the use of media technologies in the city, exploring integrative methodologies and novel concepts. Subsequently, the research suggests that textual analysis of digital texts retrieved from the arrival neighborhood of Raval, a central neighborhood in Barcelona, would help identify new urban concepts and uses upon the arrival. More specifically, visual, and written texts from social networking platforms are explored to mediate urban experiences, people’s aspirations, feelings, and interactions in urban settings. As a result, this supports the symbolic proximity of social domains which accommodate the quotidian interactions, cultural appropriations or ephemera events of urban populations. Finally, a machine learning application is proposed to incorporate narrative concepts and create a dynamic interface and tie users’ stories with places through the action of tagging. This tool would enhance the orientation of arrival populations in new lands, opening a dialogue on how digital narratives could increase the permeability of urban landscape, advocating for new design scenarios in neighborhoods that are considered arrival. |
