| Περίληψη: | The proposed paper is part of the team’s research project Representing and commoning the ‘refugee crisis’ and the ‘hot spot’: the case of Lesvos’. It actually examines in depth the representations and the related exhibited and publicized artworks, articles, posters, films, TV showcases etc (thus representations), as well as the graffiti and the artworks in the streets and any other form of space appropriation functioning to the commoning of the so called ‘refugee crisis’. The team’s aim is to investigate and critically commentate the representations’ aesthetics, the verbal and visual language incorporated, the references and symbolisms, the space and place they are held to, and finally their dynamics, their communicative ability and their impact to the audiences. The cases examined include both hegemonic and counter narratives. In a number of examples the showcased representations are made by the refugees themselves. However, for the purposes of the conference the specific paper will mainly focus to the street artworks and activities related to the case of Greece. Accordingly the examples will be compared to other cases of works connected and linked with the social movements, other activist art and space appropriations, with the overall notion of ‘crisis’ and its multiplicity of appliances, as well as with the current dynamics of today’s social movements. |
