| Περίληψη: | Several studies have identified variables that influence NGO objectives, organizational structures and activity. Among the most important are the availability of funding and the density of networks. The ongoing economic crisis in Greece, has motivated philanthropic institutions and funding mechanisms, to support NGOs’ initiatives aiming at the relief of vulnerable groups. Nevertheless, networking, and the systematic cultivation of synergies with big and experienced International NGOs (INGOS) was still largely missing. Yet, the refugee crisis has created a new, dynamic environment acting as a significant transformation driver. Available funding, mostly from European institutions, has increased while, as INGOs and international organizations (like UNHCR) expanded their operations to Greece, close cooperation and partnerships with local NGOs multiplied, and numerous new initiatives emerged. However, at the same time refugee-crisis related developments raised important issues on the autonomy of organized civil society in Greece such as the increasing dependence on big donors and a relatively new and widening cleavage between professionalised NGOs and grassroots movements. |
